Most baselines live in artificial rotating habitats orbiting Earth, creating a synthetic ring system around the planet. During the 22nd century, tailor-made, human-created habitats became a major craze; both governments and private industries rushed to create their own: spindles, cylinders, wheels, spheres; the creativity had no bounds. The builders of the habitats tried to tempt the wealthiest of the transhumans to migrate to the habitats, but it seemed transhumans didn’t take the bait. Losing money, the companies changed their strategies, aiming their advertising now to baselines, offering them cool climates and a wealth of new opportunities they didn’t have on the ground. Baselines took to the idea like a fish to water, and there was a mass exodus of baselines emigrating into orbit.
